Winter ride
The trail was covered in ice in parts, but otherwise it was a great day for a ride. After working at home for a while, ventured out to do some last minute holiday shopping. After falling several times the last couple of days, I was much more careful, crab walking along the really icy sections of the trail. On the return trip I took to the roads which were mostly ice-free. It was a gorgeous day, sunny, clear, like most days in the west. Whenever I travel to the west I am always struck by the clarity of the air. Everything is a little bit clearer, colors are brighter. Today was one of those days. I'm tempted to take a shovel right after it snows and clear off a narrow patch on the trail, enough room for a single bike. Otherwise, large stretches become ice-covered and unrideable for several days this time of year. The park authority refuses to clear any sections of the trail, so maybe it's time for the trail users to act. I'm sure it would be so difficult that only small sections could be done, but it's worth a try.
