Bike School  Back from two weeks at bike school, the United Bicycle institute. It was a great experience, talking bikes day and night and doing a little riding when the weather permitted. I may publish a write-up later. I highly recommend the school.

I took my Bike Friday and rode from the Medford Airport down to Ashland. It's about a 20 mile ride, mostly on a paved trail, the Beaver Creek Greenway. Ashland is very bike friendly, with many bike lanes and a few paved trails. With adequate on-road bike facilities, paved trails are not nearly so important.

It was also refreshing to have motorists actually respect pedestrians an cyclists. The norm was to give them the right of way. When pedestrians approached the road, motorists were aware of their presence and usually stopped for them regardless of the presence of a crosswalk.
