Spent some time cross country skiing in what I thought would be great, powdery snow. The wax I used, a blue Swix wax, recommended for new snow below freezing, didn't quite cut it. It was good snow, but it turned wet quickly and I had no kick. I did see a Pileated Woodpecker normally found in more remote areas. I heard a very loud drumming sound and the big bird was easy to spot.
