Anoto is developing an interesting application using a digital pen and specially printed (and very cheap) paper. The pattern on the paper is part of a huge map, half the size of the U.S., and a digital pen senses where on the map each piece of paper is located. It sounds like the ideal integration of paper and digital technology. There's a long article about the product in the April 2001 Wired magazine.
